Thuya Wood Bead Inlayed Box

A beautiful handmade box with an elaborate inlayed pattern on the lid. Fairly & sustainably traded.
This lovely box is called a secret box because there is a piece of wood that slides across before it will open. It is made in India from a hard wood and has a lid embossed with metal and beads.

Thuya wood comes a coniferous tree from the foothills of the Atlas Mountains in North Africa. The grain of the wood is brought out by many hours of polishing with natural oils. Although the tree itself can regenerate after having been logged, these beautiful items are made from the root sections which grow out from the tree, and are therefore sustainable and fairly traded. Because of the amazing grain patterns, each piece is unique.
